HB 759 Maryland House of Delegates · 2024 Regular Session

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses - Professional Liability Insurance Coverage - Notification Requirements

This Maryland law requires advanced practice registered nurses to inform patients in writing if they do not have professional liability insurance or if their coverage has lapsed. The notification must be provided during a patient's first visit when coverage is missing and must be included in the informed consent form for any medical procedures. Patients must sign the notice at the time of the visit or consent, and the nurse must keep a copy in the patient's medical records. Additionally, nurses without insurance must display this information in a visible area of their workplace. The State Board of Nursing is tasked with creating the specific language for these notices, which will become effective on October 1, 2024.
