An Act To Protect State Retiree Pensions From Inflation

This bill automatically adjusts Maine state retirees' pension payments each year based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to protect against inflation. Starting July 1, 2026, the adjustment will apply to the first $40,000 of a retiree's pension, with a maximum annual increase of 4% for the 2026-27 fiscal year. Beginning July 1, 2028, the adjustment will cover the first $50,000 of the pension, with a maximum annual increase rising to 5%.
