HB 1159 Louisiana House · 2026 Regular Session

TRAFFIC/VIOLATIONS: Provides relative to use of automated and electronic speed enforcement devices for the issuance of citations

This bill allows specific Louisiana municipalities to use automated speed enforcement devices, such as radar guns, to issue speeding tickets. It applies to towns with populations between 15,000 and 16,000 located in parishes with populations between 70,000 and 90,000, as well as parishes with populations between 439,000 and 442,000. By amending existing state laws, the legislation creates exceptions to the current prohibition on these devices for these particular communities. The changes do not affect municipalities outside these specific population ranges or alter restrictions on using such devices in school zones.
