AN ACT relating to cremation of dead bodies.

Coroners must now make a bona fide attempt to notify next of kin for at least six months before burying or cremating an unclaimed body at public expense.

Government agencies responsible for burial expenses must consult with the local county coroner before deciding between burial and cremation.

If a deceased person is known to be of Jewish descent, the responsible agency must contact the Chabad of the Bluegrass or successor entity to inquire about burial preferences.

The timeline for escheating excess funds from unclaimed body property remains at one year, but the section numbering was reorganized from a single subsection to three subsections.
