MODERATE
The bill was finalized into its enrolled version, which adds a new section granting disability pensions and survivor benefits to firefighters injured on the job. It also updates the State Mandates Act to include a new section regarding these benefits.
Scope change
The bill's scope expanded from solely auditing pension funds to include specific disability and survivor benefits for firefighters.
ELIGIBILITY

Added a new provision granting firefighters who are permanently disabled due to job-related injuries a disability pension equal to the greater of 65% of their salary or their standard retirement pension.

Provided that disability pensions continue to survivors if the firefighter dies while disabled, with a specific increase to $50,051.76 for deaths occurring in 2023 under certain conditions.

FISCAL

Established a monthly child's disability benefit of $20 for each unmarried dependent child under 18, with a total cap of 75% of the firefighter's salary when combined with the disability pension.

REQUIREMENT

Changed the section reference in the bill text from a single section (22A-115) to include two sections (4-110 and 22A-115) to accommodate the new firefighter benefits.
