IDAHO PATIENT ACT – Amends existing law to provide for certain actions, proceedings, or judgments founded in or derived from a judgment.
This Idaho bill (S 1079) limits fees and costs that can be charged when collecting medical debt from patients. It caps additional fees for uncontested judgments at $350 or 100% of the debt (whichever is less) and for contested judgments at $750 or 100% of the debt. The bill also allows courts to award supplemental fees only if costs are grossly disproportionate and the patient deliberately avoided payment. It applies to all related legal actions, including judgments sold or transferred, and takes effect July 1, 2025.
