UNCONTROLLED FIRES – Amends and adds to existing law to provide that a fire burning out of control on federal land in Idaho is a nuisance and cost recovery actions related to such fires are subject to a statute of limitations after ten years, and to allow the governor to direct state resources to suppress fires on federal land.

This bill amends Idaho law to declare uncontrolled fires on any land (including federal land) a public nuisance and sets a 10-year statute of limitations for cost recovery lawsuits related to such fires. It adds a new provision allowing Idaho's governor to direct state firefighting resources to suppress uncontrolled fires on federal land during emergencies threatening public safety or property. The state can cover these suppression costs upfront using general funds and later recover them through civil lawsuits filed by the attorney general. The law takes effect immediately upon signing, streamlining cost recovery for fire suppression efforts on federal lands.
