Senate Rosenwald Schools Study Committee; create

This bill establishes the Senate Rosenwald Schools Study Committee to investigate the history and impact of Rosenwald schools, which were 5,000 schools built in the early 1900s to educate African American children in the South through a partnership between Julius Rosenwald and Booker T. Washington. The committee consists of five Senate members appointed by the Senate President, who will research the conditions, needs, and issues related to these schools and submit findings or legislative recommendations before the committee is dissolved on December 1, 2026. Funding for the committee comes from Senate appropriations, and members receive standard legislative allowances for up to five days of service. The study focuses particularly on Rosenwald schools in Georgia, where the program funded over 240 schools serving more than 35,000 children across 103 counties.
