Georgia Taxpayer Privacy Protection Act; enact

The list of bill sponsors was removed and replaced with a statement indicating the bill is a substitute offered by the House Committee on Ways and Means.

A new subsection was added to impose a civil penalty of up to $5,000 on any person who negligently or knowingly discloses a taxpayer's telephone number.

A new provision was added stating that violations of the bill will be treated as unfair or deceptive acts under Georgia's Fair Business Practices Act.

The legislative findings section was updated to explicitly state that taxpayer phone numbers are frequently misused for commercial solicitation, fraud, and identity theft.
