Traffic Infractions Resulting in a Crash with Another Vehicle

Mandatory hearings now require higher civil penalties ($1,000-$5,000) and longer license suspensions (6 months to 1 year) for crashes involving vulnerable road users.

Drivers found guilty of specific crash-related infractions must attend a department-approved driver improvement course focusing on vulnerable road user rights.

Drivers convicted of DUI or those who crash while violating certain traffic laws must maintain higher liability insurance limits ($100,000/$300,000/$50,000) for 1-3 years.

Mandatory civil penalties collected from drivers required to appear at hearings under s. 318.19(1) or (2) must be deposited into the Emergency Medical Services Trust Fund to support trauma centers.

The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.

Mandatory hearings now apply to crashes causing death, serious bodily injury, or specific traffic violations including speeding 30+ mph over the limit.
