AN ACT CONCERNING OVERSIGHT OF GROUP PRACTICE ACQUISITIONS AND MERGERS.

SB 837 requires medical group practices to notify the Commissioner of Health Strategy about planned acquisitions or mergers, including those involving hospitals, private equity firms, insurers, or other practices. It repeals a rule that previously presumed approval for ownership transfers of large group practices when sold in response to a request for proposals. The bill also directs the Health Care Cabinet to study ways to strengthen oversight of such transactions and propose legislative changes. This aims to promote competition and improve healthcare quality by increasing transparency in group practice ownership changes.
