AN ACT REQUIRING STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO COOPERATE WITH THE FEDERAL OFFICE OF IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT.

This bill requires Connecticut state law enforcement agencies to notify federal immigration authorities (ICE) when encountering undocumented immigrants with active ICE detainer requests or final deportation orders. Specifically, it mandates that correction facilities notify ICE about undocumented individuals in their custody, and police departments must immediately inform ICE upon first contact with such individuals while detaining them until ICE assumes custody. The law applies to all state and local law enforcement agencies, including municipal police departments. Its purpose is to establish a clear process for state agencies to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement procedures.
