AN ACT CONCERNING DEATH CERTIFICATES.

HB 5196 requires Connecticut registrars of vital statistics to issue two standardized death certificate types: standard certificates and short-form certificates. The short form, which includes a decedent's Social Security number, may only be obtained by a surviving spouse or next of kin. This bill standardizes certificate formats and restricts access to Social Security numbers on short forms to immediate family members, without changing broader certificate access rules.
