HB 5293 Connecticut House · 2024 Regular Session

AN ACT CONCERNING THE DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES' RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING VARIOUS REVISIONS TO DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES STATUTES.

This bill creates a new Oral Health and Dental Services Unit within the Department of Developmental Services to support people with intellectual disabilities in maintaining their oral health. The unit will provide access to specialized dental care, offer education to patients and families, and conduct related research. Additionally, the legislation expands the ability of dental school graduates and foreign-trained dentists to practice temporarily in state clinics and the new unit. It also establishes a grant program to help developers build supportive housing for individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorder.
