An Act relating to the Local Boundary Commission; and providing for an effective date.

This bill amends the Alaska statute governing the Local Boundary Commission by changing the number of its members from six to five and adjusting their terms from six years to five years. The commission would continue to be appointed by the governor, with one member representing each of the four judicial districts, one from the unorganized borough, and one from the state at large. Under the proposed changes, the member appointed from the state at large would serve as the chair of the commission. The legislation includes a transition provision ensuring that current members retain their existing terms while new appointees serve the shortened five-year term, with the changes taking effect on January 31, 2025.
