VFW Post 8640, celebrating

This is a commemorative resolution (HR 62), not a policy bill. It formally celebrates the founding of VFW Auxiliary Post 8640 Long-Hodges-Lowe in Sheffield, Alabama. The resolution honors the seven Black World War II veterans - John Hampton, William Appleton, Willie Fitzgerald, Harry Grimes, Grady Hardnett, William Hill, and Vinson Perkins Sr. - who established Alabama’s first Veterans of Foreign Wars post for Black veterans in 1953. It recognizes their effort to overcome exclusion from mainstream VFW meetings and their successful campaign to charter the post, later named for local WWII veterans.
