State Textbook Review Committee, review of periodicals, required

This bill requires Alabama's State Textbook Committee to regularly review magazines, newspapers, and journals used in public K-12 classrooms. The law defines a periodical as regularly used if it appears at least once a week during the school year and mandates the creation of statewide lists of approved publications. Additionally, the State Board of Education is authorized to establish separate guidelines for this review process, distinct from the existing textbook review procedures. These changes take effect on October 1, 2024.
