SB 33 Alabama Senate · 2024 Regular Session

Public K-12 education, employment of assistant superintendents, assistant chief school finance officers, and assistant principals by contract provided for local boards of education

This bill allows Alabama local school boards to hire assistant superintendents, assistant chief school finance officers, and assistant principals on a contract basis starting July 1, 2024. By doing so, these specific administrative and supervisory roles are excluded from the state's teacher tenure protections that currently apply to principals and teachers. The legislation updates existing laws to clarify that these new hires operate under contract terms rather than the permanent employment status associated with tenure.
