Cullman County, authorizes retired sheriff employees to keep weapons

This bill directs the Cullman County Sheriff to create a permanent record for any abandoned or stolen firearms recovered within the county. After holding these weapons for at least six months without a claim from the owner, the sheriff is authorized to sell them to licensed gun dealers or destroy them. Any money earned from selling these firearms will be split, with 70 percent going to the sheriff's office and 30 percent to the district attorney's office. The law takes effect on October 1, 2024.
