Public K-12 schools, to prohibit certain actions toward military children and membership in athletic associations that do the same
This law requires public K-12 schools in Alabama to allow children of active-duty military parents to join their sports teams immediately when they move due to a permanent change of station, regardless of when the child enrolls. The bill also prevents these schools from joining athletic associations that do not follow this same rule. Schools may ask parents to show official military orders to prove the move is legitimate, but they cannot delay a student's eligibility based on the timing of their enrollment. The changes took effect on October 1, 2024.
